Cirque du Soleil announced on Thursday that it was canceling all its performances in Hangzhou (China) "until further notice". The company made this decision because of the country's coronavirus epidemic, which is beginning to spread around the world.

"The Chinese authorities have asked for the temporary closure of all domestic activities gathering 100 or more people," said the Quebec company in a statement. This would help contain the epidemic and make it more manageable for health authorities.

25 dead according to the latest assessment

All the performances of the show A fantastic world in Hangzhou are therefore canceled to "ensure the safety of its spectators and employees" of Cirque du Soleil. Located in Zhejiang province, the city of Hangzhou is 700 km from Wuhan, where the virus first appeared in December.

This Friday, China established a new balance sheet of 26 dead and 830 confirmed cases of this virus of the SARS family. The WHO recognized this Thursday the "emergency in China" but judges that it is "too early" to speak of "public health emergency of international scope".
