The statue in homage to the brilliant BD screenwriter René Goscinny (1926-1977), creator of Asterix , Lucky Luke and Petit Nicolas in particular , was inaugurated on Thursday in Paris, a week before the opening of the Angoulême festival .

The bronze statue, the work of sculptor Sébastien Langloÿs, represents a standing Goscinny resting on a pedestal representing a library. Four emblematic characters (Le Petit Nicolas, Astérix, Iznogoud and Lucky Luke) are integrated into the set in the form of a statuette.

The year of comics

Asterix (drawn by Uderzo) is placed on the hand of the screenwriter. Le Petit Nicolas (designed by Sempé) is on his shoulder. Iznogoud (drawn by Tabary) comes out of his cover. Lucky Luke (drawn by Morris) is at his feet. This set, located in a small park in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, near the writer's former home, is the first monument dedicated to comics in Paris. René Goscinny was already entitled to a street in his name located near the National Library of France (BnF) in the 13th arrondissement of Paris. The year 2020 has been declared the year of the comic strip by the Ministry of Culture.
