Margaux, broke the record for the show Don't forget the lyrics, presented by Nagui. - Clément Lepetit / Air Productions

  • Margaux became the biggest winner of the TV game “Don't forget the words” presented by Nagui on Wednesday evening.
  • The candidate of almost 25 years has already won 425,000 euros and does not intend to stop there.
  • To achieve this, she memorized more than 750 songs over several months.

A pretty fortune of 425,000 euros reaches out to him. On Wednesday evening, Margaux won the record for gains in the program “Don't forget the words”, broadcast on France 2 and dethroned Kevin, who had pocketed 410,000 euros in July 2018. More and more at ease alongside of Nagui, the young candidate of almost 25 years does not intend to stop there. Between two broadcasts, she received 20 Minutes in the apartment she shares with her companion in Saint-Malo where she has lived for two years. The young woman who grew up in Lorient leads a peaceful life there, far from TV studios and microphones.

On Wednesday evening, you became the greatest maestro in the history of the show. Do you realize?

Not really, no. For me, Kevin [the title holder], he was a machine. I'm not sure how I got there. There is a lot of joy. It was sometimes said that I did not show my emotions, but there, I could not hold back my tears. My mother came to join me on set. It was she who made me cry!

You also win over a song that is not easy…

This is Thierry Hazard's psychedelic doll . It's a super difficult song with lyrics that change a lot. I didn't know her before I revised. I only knew Le Jerk and I told myself that I needed a second from Thierry Hazard. I'm very happy to have won on a song like that.

Now that you are first maestro, what is your goal?

I would like to beat Renaud's number of victories, which is 55 (she has won 43 times). I didn't think I would stay that long, and then I saw that I was climbing up the rankings. Over the broadcasts, I took on the challenge. I'm glad it was a woman who came first. I don't want to leave now (smile). If it stops, it'll make me weird.

You already have the assurance of leaving with 425,000 euros…

My banker is happy (laughs). I know she watches the show every night now.

Do you know what you are going to do with your money?

I promised my boyfriend to buy him a motorcycle so I'm going to do it. He has already started taking driving lessons, so I have no choice. We will also buy an apartment or a small house in Saint-Malo. But I'm not going to spend it all now! It is my mother who will help me manage all this, I know nothing about it.

You watch the show every night. How are you on the screen?

It was not easy at first but now it's fine. I have the impression of being on the screen as I am naturally. I wince, I have facial expressions. My loved ones told me that I was on TV as in life. It reassured me. I am not shy but I do not have much self-confidence. The show helped me to be more comfortable.

We have seen you very close to Nagui since the start of your adventure.

On set, he's like on TV. He is a very simple and very nice person, he keeps asking me if I'm okay. He is quite teasing but I am too, it is part of our relationship, it is a game. Beyond Nagui, the whole team is benevolent. The atmosphere is good and it does not give the impression of being on a program watched by three million people.

The fans of the show are amazed by your perfect knowledge of the songs. How do you do ?

I worked a lot to memorize them before the show. I made a list of over 750 songs that I typed on the computer. And then I revised them until I knew them perfectly. Since I was not working, I was doing this on my terrace last summer. It took me months but that's what got me there.

You like to sing a lot but you have never given a concert.

No, I sing for myself. I always sang because my mother did it too. But I never took a class. I started playing guitar when I was a teenager, but I didn't take lessons either. I just did a few songs when I was a holiday club host in Greece. I never imagined myself to be a singer, but I can't wait to give charity concerts with the other maestros on the show.

It's not the first time you've tried your luck on TV. Can you tell us about your first?

When I was 18, I participated in the casting of La Nouvelle Star with a friend. The producer who passed the casting completely demolished me, saying that I had no talent. It demoralized me a bit even if I didn't go there to break through.
