A personal success and a first step towards reintegration. On Tuesday, around fifty detainees from Vezin-le-Coquet prison near Rennes received a diploma in national education during a ceremony organized in their honor. "This is very important because it makes it possible to promote the success of detained persons," said Daniel Menoud, principal of the interregional educational unit. “We arrive in detention, the universe collapses, with all the negative aspects of incarceration, it breaks people a little. Relaunching, getting back into perspective and succeeding is very important, "he said.

Under the applause of the audience, these prisoners, often foreigners, received the French Language Study Diploma (Delf), the General Training Certificate (CFG), the certificate or the DAEU, a sort of equivalent to the tray. "This diploma of National Education must convince you that you are capable of succeeding! "Daniel Menoud said to them.

Among the graduates, Gabriel, a 26 year old Romanian, who proudly wears his Delf. " I am happy. When I go out I show the diploma, ”he said, before returning to his cell. Sébastien, 32, believes that studying makes him less bored. “Time passes slowly in prison, we are awakened around 7 am and at 6 pm, everything stops. Rather than watching TV, it's better to study. Vezin offers a lot of activities, you just have to have the will, ”he believes.

Since 2019, a scholarship system of 150 euros per month has been put in place for the most deprived prisoners by the Brittany regional council. Fifty people are concerned in Vezin in a prison which has about 820 detainees, according to the prison administration.
