The authority’s plan in this regard depends on two main axes. The first includes sending a delegation from the authority to the Philippine capital, Manila, quickly, to lead relief operations in the field, buy basic needs from local markets there, and supervise their delivery to those affected in their areas of presence.

The second axis includes the conduct of air relief flights from inside the country carrying supplies and other necessary supplies, which are available within the authority's strategic stock of relief materials.

The Secretary-General of the Red Crescent Authority, Dr. Muhammad Atiq Al-Falahi, said that the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan came as a confirmation of what His Highness announced the Emirates’s solidarity with the government and people of the Philippines, and its willingness to provide all aspects of support and assistance, to overcome the consequences of the “tall” volcano, His Highness’s directives also reinforce the UAE’s humanitarian and developmental role towards all peoples of the world, and its commitment to its humanitarian responsibility in such difficult circumstances that the Philippines is going through.

He stressed that His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan is closely following the relief plans that the Commission has put in place to ward off the effects of the disaster on the local population in the areas near the volcano.

To that, a coordination meeting was held today at the headquarters of the Emirates Red Crescent in Abu Dhabi, between the authority and the Philippine embassy in the country, which was attended by Dr. Muhammad Ateeq Al-Falahi, the Secretary-General, and the Deputy Secretary-General, while on the other side, His Excellency Jacqueline Quintana, Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to the country.

The meeting reviewed ways to enhance state aid to the affected people, reach it to the largest number of affected areas, and expand the umbrella of its beneficiaries.

The two sides discussed the mechanism for receiving the financial and in-kind donations from those in solidarity with the situation of those affected by the volcano in general, especially members of the Filipino community in the country.
