His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, opened yesterday morning the Geological Park in the Buhais area.

After unveiling the commemorative plaque marking the official inauguration, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah toured the sections of the geological park, looking at the geological features and fossils it contained, and His Highness listened to a brief about how the Emirate of Sharjah was formed through various geological ages.

His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah watched the documentary film "Sharjah Heritage Treasure", which shed light on the geological factors that Sharjah experienced throughout the ages that formed its mountains, plains and seas. A number of school students presented to His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah an overview of the fossilized fossils formed over millions of years. The Geological Park in Buhais is a pioneering project in the field of ecotourism aimed at introducing visitors to Sharjah's geological history, the geological importance of Jabal Bahis and the archaeological areas surrounding it. The park is characterized by its important archaeological site rich in the fossilized remains of many ancient marine creatures that settled in shallow seas that were submerging most of the land in the country until a recent period from a geological perspective, and the garden embraces historical evidence of how the local nature formed no less than 93 million years ago. The park contains two archeological sites that contribute to enhancing knowledge about the history of human settlement in this region, which dates back more than 125 thousand years.
