Since Monday and at least until Wednesday, the Lille metropolitan area will be affected by an episode of air pollution, we learned from Atmo Hauts-de-France. The northern prefecture has already indicated that the "level of information and recommendation" for suspended dust would be exceeded.

It is, alas, inevitable as soon as certain meteorological conditions are met, one does not cut pollution. As of Monday, the absence of wind and low temperatures will help keep PM10 particles in the atmosphere. According to Atmo, these particles are not only emitted locally (heating and road traffic) but others will arrive from the Northeast.

Poor today and much worse tomorrow

The air quality index has therefore already deteriorated since Sunday, from 4 to 7 (poor). Tuesday will be even worse with an 8 out of 10. Besides, according to the map available on the Atmo website, PM10 concentrations should reach their maximum on the major routes around Lille until at least Wednesday.

However, the prefecture has not yet issued a differentiated traffic order but nevertheless encourages motorists to "use the least polluting means of transport." However, in view of Atmo's forecasts, expect speed and traffic restriction measures to be implemented in the coming days (or even the next few hours).
