Protesters march against the PMA, avenue de l'Opéra, in Paris, on January 19. - ISA HARSIN / SIPA

  • Sunday, La Manif pour tous and a group of associations opposed to the opening of the PMA to all women marched in Paris.
  • The procession passed avenue de l'Opéra. La Manif pour tous was accused of having manipulated a photo of the crowd on the avenue to reveal a greater number of demonstrators.
  • Other photos clearly show the crowd that stretches along the avenue.

They were 41,000 according to the Police Prefecture, 26,000 according to the cabinet Occurrence to survey Paris this Sunday to make known their opposition to the PMA, at the call of the collective Marchons enfants, of which La Manif pour tous is a part. After the demonstration, the latter was accused by internet users of having manipulated a photo showing the procession on avenue de l'Opéra, which stretches for nearly 700 meters in the center of the capital. According to its detractors, who rely on another photo showing a third of the more sparse avenue, the association would have retouched the photo to add a crowd on part of the avenue.

In the white square, a coarse addition of a crowd, clearer ... AND if we look at a photo extracted from a video from @LaManifPourTous, oddly the crowd seems to stop a quarter of the street.

Ludivine de la Rochère, president of La Manif pour tous, is indignant at the controversy with 20 Minutes : "As if we could have had time to fake a photo!" There was an unquestionable crowd on avenue de l'Opéra. "

FAKE OFF

The image showing the crowd stopping at a third of the avenue is taken from a short video posted on La Manif pour tous's Twitter account. She resumes the speech of Aldéric Dumont, vice-president of the movement, with cutting plans on Avenue de l'Opéra. The video begins by showing plans of the artery filled up to the first third, then fully.

Albéric Dumont intervened at the end of the demonstration, he was the last speaker to speak at Place de l'Opéra, as shown by a video posted on the Facebook page of La Manif pour tous. The first speeches had started about 1.5 hours previously. The short video posted on Twitter alternates with crowd shots filmed before and during the intervention of Albéric Dumont. During his speech, by the time night fell, the demonstrators were fewer.

20 Minutes was able to obtain the original file of the image posted by La Manif for all on Twitter. The file does not show any changes. As for the image posted on Twitter, it has only been slightly lightened compared to the original file.

Other photos published by the SIPA press agency, as well as by Le Parisien , clearly show a crowd stretching along the avenue de l'Opéra. The organizers had provided photographers with a nacelle at the Place de l'Opéra so that they could photograph the avenue. "There were people at the end of the avenue, up to the Hotel du Louvre," explains a press photographer who covered the event at 20 Minutes . The demonstration started at Place de la Résistance, where there were not many people. As time went by, people joined the procession. The crowd then dispersed during the final speeches.
