Porco Rosso and the others will land on the planet Netflix. - NANA PRODUCTIONS / SIPA

Le Voyage de Chihiro , My neighbor Totoro , Kiki the little witch … All the heroes of these animated films will land on Netflix between February and April. The American streaming platform will broadcast twenty-one works from the Japanese studio Ghibli, the two partners announced on Monday January 20. A downside for fans, users living in the United States, Canada and Japan will not be able to immerse themselves in the enchanted universe created by Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki: in these countries, Ghibli has made a similar partnership with HBO Max. The same is true for China, where Netflix does not operate.

"In our search for the ideal digital partner for the broadcasting of films from the studio, the Netflix team was able to convince us thanks to the passion and energy they display," said Vincent Maraval, CEO of Wild Bunch International .

" A dream come true "

"It's a dream come true for Netflix and millions of members. Studio Ghibli's animated films are legendary and have captivated audiences around the world for 35 years, "said Netflix original animation director Aram Yacoubian in a statement. For the first time in the history of the platform, the titles will be subtitled in 28 languages and dubbed in 20 different languages. One way for the platform "to introduce a wider audience to this unusual dreamlike animated universe", says Aram Yacoubian.

Seven films, including My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Porco Rosso (1992) and Kiki the Little Witch (1989) will first be released on February 1. It will then take until March 1 to see Princess Mononoke (1997), the Oscar-winning Voyage de Chihiro (2001) and five other films. The last seven will be available from April 1st. Millions of users will be able to see or watch these legendary films that have fascinated fans around the world for over 35 years.
