The National Bar Council (CNB), which represents the 70,000 French lawyers, voted this Friday evening to renew for a week the strike movement against the pension reform. Meeting in an extraordinary general assembly, the CNB unanimously decided to continue a "hard strike", which started two weeks ago, at least until January 24, the date on which the reform bill pensions must be presented to the Council of Ministers.

The elected representatives of the CNB debated at length about the advisability of responding to an invitation from the cabinet of the Keeper of the Seals Nicole Belloubet inviting them to three new meetings, including the first "Monday morning". One of the elected, Xavier Autain, called not to "fall into the game of fools" and to refuse these meetings, when another, Stéphane Lallement, proposed to "raise the stakes", by demanding an appointment you with Prime Minister Edouard Philippe.

"We have to go and chat," pleaded Elodie Mulon. Fifteen days of strike, it starts to be a lot for many firms, three weeks of strike, these are firms which will close. "The solution to this unprecedented crisis is political in nature and falls under the Prime Minister's arbitration," writes in its final motion the CNB, which "therefore requests to be received without delay by Mr. Edouard Philippe".

Double contributions and lower pensions

Winds up against a project, which they say is synonymous with doubling of contributions and lowering their pensions, the lawyers demand that their specific scheme be maintained. The national bodies of the profession on Wednesday opposed the inadmissibility of the government's proposal to maintain a clean fund within the universal regime, saying that this only "confirms the end of our autonomous regime".

According to the motion adopted on Friday, the CNB "deplores the fact that the government is not responding to legitimate requests" and thus welcomes "the historic and persistent mobilization of lawyers from all the bars of France". The lawyers multiply, in fact, since January 6 the spectacular actions, throwing their black dresses, camping in the court of Bobigny or, like Friday in Bordeaux, turning their back on the authorities on the day of the re-entry. After deserting the courts, bars have opted for "zealous strikes", no less than 25 lawyers defending a single defendant Thursday in Clermont-Ferrand.
