Associations and collectives challenged Thursday in an open letter the Minister of Housing, asking him to act "immediately" to resolve the "humanitarian crisis" experienced in Marseille, the second city of France, since the deadly collapse of two buildings in November 2018.

The authors of the letter, published on social networks, draw the attention of Julien Denormandie to the non-compliance with the Charter for the rehousing of evacuees, signed after the disaster by the town hall, the state and associations.

Evacuation of more than 400 buildings

On January 7, the deputy mayor of Marseille in charge of housing, Arlette Fructus, had returned her delegation to the mayor, criticizing in particular the City's non-compliance with this charter.

The collapse of two buildings on rue d'Aubagne on November 5, 2018, which had claimed the lives of eight people and revealed the extent of the unsanitary and dangerous housing phenomenon in Marseille, had been followed by the evacuation of more than 400 buildings, or nearly 4,000 people, some of whom spent several months at the hotel.
