The 15-year-old minor, arrested in the context of the investigation into the death of a police officer, mown by a van during an intervention near Lyon, was placed in pre-trial detention on Friday, announced the Lyon prosecutor's office .

Franck Labois, a 45-year-old police officer assigned to the Operational Support Group (GAO) at the Sûreté départementale du Rhône, died on Monday afternoon of his injuries. The police officer had been purposely mown by the driver of a van during an intervention in Bron aimed at arresting individuals suspected of being involved in an aggravated robbery case in an organized gang. The van was later found empty in Villeurbanne.

"This crime will not go unpunished, justice will be done"

The teenager, arrested Wednesday, was therefore referred and charged with "theft followed by violence resulting in death," said in a statement the prosecutor of the Republic of Lyon, Nicolas Jacquet. The police custody of the major arrested on Thursday by investigators and suspected of being the driver of the van has been extended.

An official tribute, in the presence in particular of the Minister of the Interior Christophe Castaner, was paid to Franck Labois this Friday afternoon at the prefecture of Lyon. The Knight of the Legion of Honor badges were awarded posthumously to the police officer, who was also elevated to the rank of captain. "This crime will not go unpunished, justice will be done," said the minister, saying that "the investigation is progressing well."
