  • From Monday, the pupils of 1st grade will work on the first tests of continuous control of the new bac.
  • But an intersyndicale asks for the postponement of these tests, considering that the pupils and the teachers are not ready. Some unions, such as Snes, even call for a boycott of trials.
  • The organizational problems posed by these tests and even their educational vocation are criticized.

Will the baptism of the common continuous assessment tests (E3C) be disturbed? These new formula bac tests will start this Monday in many establishments. The pupils of 1st general will have floor on a subject of history-geography and on two others in modern languages. And those of the technological path will work on math.

Most secondary level unions (SNES-FSU, SE-UNSA, CGT Educ'action, Sud education, SGEN-CFDT, SNEP-FSU, SNALC) called in a statement to the Minister of Education to renounce these tests , believing that they posed "both technical and educational" problems. Ditto for the first federation of parents of students, the FCPE. Having not received a positive response from Jean-Michel Blanquer, some unions have raised their voices, like Snes: “We call on our colleagues to block the E3Cs. Either by refusing to choose subjects, or by going on strike for surveillance or correction, or by putting 20/20 to all the students, ”explains Sophie Vénétitay, deputy secretary general of Snes-FSU.

"In most establishments, things are looking very good," said the minister.

Difficult to know if these watchwords will be followed, according to Philippe Vincent, secretary general of the SNPDEN (union of heads of establishments): “We cannot measure what the scale of the phenomenon will be and if the social context tense with the ongoing discussions on pension reform will have an impact on the mobilization of teachers, "he said. But some high schools, which are not usually the most socially restless, seem to be agitated. According to AFP, teachers from Louis-Le-Grand and Henri IV, in Paris, have planned to strike on the day of the continuous assessment tests.

A threat that Jean-Michel Blanquer seems to minimize. "It is the fact of a small minority that is very vocal and that we hear a lot," he said on Thursday on RTL. "In the majority of establishments, things are looking very good," he said. But the prospect of disruption is feared by the parents of PEEP students, who "do not accept that their children are penalized," they said in a statement, recalling their support for this measure.

The educational added value of the tests is questioned

There are many grievances against these first tests, with teachers questioning their educational benefits. “They put permanent pressure on the students, putting them in a position of permanent evaluation. This prevents us from working on the substance and making them progress, by working with them on their difficulties, ”says Sophie Vénétitay. According to the FCPE, the E3C are "hybrid tests between continuous control and examination, which reinforce the stress of the students like cramming, which has no pedagogical added value". The intersyndicale which asked for the postponement of the tests also considers that "the subjects proposed by the national bank of subjects do not, in many cases, correspond to the knowledge studied with the pupils". "The teachers worked to find subjects that correspond to what the students had already seen", recognizes Philippe Vincent.

Several unions have also denounced the organizational problems posed by these E3Cs. "Subjects from the national subject bank contained errors," says Sophie Vénétitay. Some pupils of 1st grade also indicated to 20 Minutes that they had not been entitled to subjects 0 allowing them to train, "which involves a breach of equality", estimates Sophie Vénétitay.

Scanning large-scale copies poses a question

In addition, it will be the first time that the copies will be dematerialized, that is to say scanned and digitized, which did not fail to pose some problems of installation. “This large-scale digitization is complicated to organize. And we wonder if when the high schools are all going to be connected, the servers will bear this load, ”questions Philippe Vincent.

In a press release published on Thursday, the Association of History and Geography Teachers (APHG) is also concerned about the information it receives about the material for scanning copies of E3C. “According to very many sources from several different academies, it would seem that the scanners with which the establishments have been equipped do not correctly recognize the colors and very insufficiently the pencils. This risks forcing the pupils to write only in black pen, including for the mapping tests, when they will have been prepared without this last minute constraint, ”she indicates. “We received a video explaining how to correct it online on Friday evening. And the evaluation grid is complex and hard to understand, ”says Sophie Vénétitay. Critics who suggest a few eddies.
