It's a shock campaign that has just invaded the walls of Milan (Italy). The swollen faces of Brigitte Macron and Michelle Obama were plastered in the streets of the city, a series of shock posters signed by the Italian artist AleXsandro Palombo. This “street art campaign” called “Just because I am a Woman” aims to alert to the scourge of violence against women.
In addition to the wife of the French President and the former “First Lady”, the posters show German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the former American presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, the American Democratic parliamentarian Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the head de facto of the Burmese government Aung San Suu Kyi and Sonia Gandhi, the president of the Congress party, the main opposition party in India.

By thus displaying the abused faces of some of the most important women on the world political scene, AleXsandro Palombo intends to "illustrate the drama that affects millions of women around the world (...) in order to denounce, raise awareness and obtain a real response from institutions and politics, "said his press office in a statement.
On each poster, under faces with traces of blow and strangulation, sentences in English denounce the situation of many women around the world: "I am a victim of domestic violence, I am paid less, I have suffered mutilation genital, I have no right to dress as I want, I can not choose who I will marry, I was raped. "Violence against women is a global problem that affects everyone regardless of race, social class or religion," the posters added.

Contemporary and militant artist AleXsandro Palombo, 45, is known for his colorful and irreverent works. He uses satirical art as a means of raising awareness and initiating reflection on social and cultural issues.
