The Sharjah Book Capital International Office for 2019, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, the Sharjah Education Council and the Sharjah Private Education Authority yesterday launched a cultural and awareness campaign titled "Book-Friendly Schools", which will last for two months and target 30 schools.

The campaign, which kicked off its first activities at the Umm Roman School for Basic Education for Girls, includes a collection of mini-book fairs and cultural, artistic and craft workshops, and holds a series of various activities and activities and reading sessions, at two days for each school, in addition to providing 50 books for the participating school libraries in the campaign.

Since 2001, the World Book Capitals Initiative Committee, consisting of representatives of UNESCO, the International Federation of Publishers, and the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, receives requests for city participation annually from around the world, and then evaluates them to choose the global book capital.
