A young man died in Germany 4 years after ingesting "mercury" poisoned by "mercury", presented by his co-worker.

On Thursday, the state court in Bielefeld confirmed the death of the 26-year-old, after falling into a coma for 4 years after eating a "sandwich" presented to him by a co-worker.

Last year, the same court convicted a fifty-seven-year-old man of poisoning his co-workers with mercury-poisoned sandwiches.

The German news agency DPA said that the accused, whose first name was known as "Klaus" for privacy-related purposes, was sentenced to life in March.

The court found Klaus guilty of attempted murder, but he appealed against the verdict, according to the Sky News website.

According to the events of the case, Klaus sprayed quantities of mercury and other materials on the sandwiches, causing the young man to enter into a coma, and the kidneys of two other colleagues were seriously damaged.

Klaus was arrested in May 2018 after being detected by surveillance cameras, adding suspicious powder in his co-workers' sandwiches in the town of Schloss Holt Stockenbrock.

It is worth noting that exposure to mercury can cause a number of health problems including skin, nervous and kidney problems.
