Several winter epidemics currently affect France. Thus, the flu continues to progress, and if no region has crossed the epidemic threshold in metropolitan France, eleven out of thirteen reached the pre-epidemic phase last week, against half in the previous week, underlines the weekly bulletin of the public health agency France published on Wednesday.

Since the start of surveillance on November 4, 95 serious cases of influenza have been admitted to intensive care, including 19 in the first week of January. Of these 95 cases, six deaths have been recorded.

A “strong activity” of gastronomy

The epidemic of bronchiolitis, a frequent respiratory disease that affects babies under 2 years of age, continues in all metropolitan areas. However, it resulted in fewer emergency department visits for children under the age of 2 in the first week of January (-17%). More than a third of those seen in the emergency room were hospitalized. The Antilles, with the exception of Saint-Barthélémy, are also affected by the epidemic.

Finally, according to the Sentinelles-Inserm surveillance network, gastroenteritis, for its part, marked “strong activity”, increasing in general medicine during the week from December 30 to January 5. Last week in mainland France, the rate of new cases of acute diarrhea seen in consultation was estimated at 326 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The most affected regions are New Aquitaine, Grand Est and Pays de la Loire.
