An exclusive tête-à-tête with "the man who traveled in the trunk". Journalist Léa Salamé went to Beirut on Wednesday to interview Carlos Ghosn. The ex-boss of Renault-Nissan has taken refuge in Lebanon since his flight from Japan on December 31. The interview, broadcast on France Inter, did not go unnoticed by Internet users.

Carlos Ghosn made his first public appearance on Wednesday at a press conference in front of 150 journalists. The former CEO announced that he fled Japan to escape “partial justice” and said he wanted to “wash his honor”.

"The man who traveled in the trunk"

Léa Salamé, who co-hosts the morning radio show 7/9 with Nicolas Demorand and has been interviewing there since 2014, made no secret of his fascination with the incredible escape of Carlos Ghosn. "Your escape absolutely fascinates the whole world, for many children you are the man who traveled in the trunk. Have you really traveled in the trunk? She asked.

The question and the tone of the interview in general, deemed "complacent" with the former entrepreneur charged by Japanese justice for embezzlement, were widely criticized on Twitter. “This [interview] is dismaying with complacency. [Carlos] Ghosn staged, like a hero by Léa Salamé, while he is just trying to escape justice. Without this [interview] bringing us any new information or news of interest, "said politician Barbara Romagnan.

"Sympathize" Ghosn, "aggressiveness with" Martinez

On Twitter, the Internet user Padre_Pio even judges that the storytelling of Carlos Ghosn's escape "repaints a horse in the feat of Arsène Lupine".

Nothing's going right. Nothing. The accomplices smiles, the fascinated childishness, the satisfaction of Ghosn, the story telling which repaints a horse in exploit of Arsène Lupine. https://t.co/tOGYW3eaay

Several people compared the interview with Carlos Ghosn with that which the journalist carried out on Tuesday of Philippe Martinez, secretary general of the CGT. “Here France Inter, through the dismaying voice of Léa Salamé, sympathizes with a rich convict on the run. We are very far from the aggressiveness of this same Salamé with Martinez, who is not subject to an international arrest warrant, ”writes editor Johan Faerber.

The interview quickly became subject to misappropriation and jokes, especially around the famous "trunk".

This morning I want to go and interview a whole bunch of pups with this question from Léa Salamé: "for you children, is Carlos Ghosn" the man who traveled in the trunk "? "

Catherine Nayl, director of information for France Inter, defended the journalist. “No offense to the lesson givers, to those who electrify or condemn, YES the public service does its work by questioning Carlos Ghosn and NO Léa Salamé shows no complacency, ever! Listen and watch the 25 minutes of the interview, ”she advised.
