According to several media reports, US government officials increasingly believe that the Ukrainian passenger plane that crashed near Tehran could be accidentally shot down. CNBC and CNN, citing government officials, said the plane may have been mistakenly shot down by the Iranian air defense system. This impression emerged after the evaluation of satellite images.

US President Donald Trump said he had "suspicions"; someone might have made a "mistake".

Iran once again pointed out one day after the crash that a technical cause should have led to the disaster. Speculation about a "suspicious" crash and rumors of a Boeing 737 shootdown or terrorist operation are all wrong, Transport and Transport Minister Mohammed Eslami told Isna News Agency.

All 176 inmates died in the crash on Wednesday. Shortly before, Iran had fired missiles at US-led bases in Iraq.
