Anas, the student who set himself on fire on November 8 in Lyon to denounce his precariousness and that of other students, is still in an artificial coma, we learned on Wednesday from his relatives.

"There is no evolution, he is still in an artificial coma," says Louise Bihan, a friend of the young man and like him activist at the Solidaires union at Lyon 2 university.

On a Facebook page created by the family, the latter indicated at the end of December that the student, 90% burned, had "still not gone out of business because of the risk of infections still very high".

"He goes down to the block several times a week"

“He goes down to the block several times a week. Our Anas is incredibly strong. We are so proud of him and the way he fights, ”she wrote, adding that several relatives had spent the holidays with him in the service of the burn victims of the Édouard-Herriot hospital in Lyon.

The 22-year-old student, who sacrificed himself in front of the Crous headquarters in Lyon on November 8, had posted a letter on social networks mentioning his financial difficulties - he had lost his scholarship by “tripling” his second year of license - and denounced the precariousness in which many students are plunged.

A kitty to cover medical expenses

The week following the tragedy, a wave of student mobilization had spread to many universities in France, sometimes punctuated by incidents such as on campuses in Paris, Lyon or Lille.

Relatives of Anas have launched a kitty of support for the political science student and his family to “cover medical expenses such as the very numerous skin grafts and heavy surgical operations to come, even if it means carrying out some of these operations 'stranger'. To date, 7,384 euros have been collected.
