Edouard Philippe estimated Monday evening before the leaders of La République en Marche that a compromise on pensions with the social partners was desirable, but that it required "that each take a step towards the other", according to several participants. The head of government attended a closed-door meeting of the LREM executive office, which was also attended by a dozen ministers.

"The Prime Minister indicated that the government was still in search of compromise, and that it had taken a certain number of steps," one of the participants told AFP. "But the compromise requires that each take a step towards the other," continued the Prime Minister, according to this deputy, who described Edouard Philippe as "optimistic about the ability to get there".

Government wants a quick end to the crisis

According to several members of the executive office, the Prime Minister did not speak on the proposal of the boss of the CFDT, Laurent Berger, who suggested the organization of a "funding conference", at which Bruno Le Maire had been favorable on Monday morning. Widely applauded by the assembly, Edouard Philippe also indicated during his speech about three quarters of an hour that the principle of universality introduced by the reform was "a fundamental principle" and that it was "out of the question to give it up ”.

The dossier on pension reform

After more than a month of strike against the pension reform, the government said Monday resolved to find a "way out of the crisis quickly", on the eve of a new multilateral meeting with unions and employers. Edouard Philippe, who will be RTL's guest at 7.40 am, will then open this meeting at the Ministry of Labor. The week will also be punctuated by a series of mobilizations against the project of a universal point retirement system.
