Railway workers on strike in Lyon, December 12, 2019. - KONRAD K./SIPA

On the 29th day of the protest movement against the pension reform, the strike continued at the SNCF, even if the mobilization lost momentum.

The rate of strikers at the SNCF fell Thursday to 6.9%, the lowest recorded since the beginning of the movement, announced the management of the railway group in a statement.

A third of drivers still mobilized

Among the personnel essential for running trains, a third (33.9%) of drivers, almost one in five controllers (18.2%) and one in ten switchmen (10.5%) were on strike on Thursday, said SNCF relying on "an actual count of those present / absent to work on each of the 400 establishments or units throughout France".

The strike at the SNCF broke, on Thursday, the record for 1986-87 when the rail workers mobilized for the defense of wages and working conditions from December 18, 1986 to January 14, 1987 at the SNCF, or 28 days without Christmas truce.
