A recent study showed that eating two apples a day may reduce the risk of people getting a heart attack or a fatal stroke, resulting from high cholesterol in the arteries.

As two large apples contain a quarter of the recommended fiber per person, and a type of fiber that feeds intestinal bacteria important for the production of short chain fatty acids, which may reduce the production of harmful cholesterol.

The study included 40 participants, aged between 20 and 69 years, with high cholesterol, who consumed two large apples per day for 8 weeks, to show results 4 percent less harmful to them.

The results also showed that their blood vessels were healthier and more relaxed, which is similar to the effect found in other foods, which contain natural compounds called polyphenols, such as tea.
