“I'm extremely nervous. For the first time, I'm afraid of my life that someone will attack me ”.

In SVT Edits new documentary What happened to Gina Dirawi? the host reads aloud from her diary from winter 2015, in connection with her becoming SVT's youngest Christmas host ever.

That the reactions became strong was already noticed then, but in the documentary Gina Dirawi tells for the first time about the extent of the hate storm that followed. SVT press chief Camilla Hagert says in the documentary that it was the fact that Dirawi was a Muslim who was behind the majority of hate reactions.

- The decision felt very right then. I underestimated the wave of hatred that would overtake her, says Eva Hamilton, former SVT CEO, in the documentary.

- If it was good for Gina Dirawi to become a Christmas host at such a young age is a question of conscience I ask myself. I'm not sure, I think it left her scars.

Left track

The documentary shows that the threat picture against Gina Dirawi escalated in the aftermath of the Christmas host, and led to, among other things, that she had four bodyguards in connection with the Melodifestivalen 2016, and that her editor had to read her mail and sort out hatred and threats.

- My body felt it. I was constantly in pain, was constantly sick and had spasms and migraines, Gina Dirawi says in the documentary.

How do you look at the Christmas celebration today?

- I don't think I've celebrated Christmas since then.

SVT Edits movie What happened to Gina Dirawi can be seen on SVT Play from 17.00 on 23 December.
