The "Museums on the Road" initiative launched by the Sharjah Museums Authority in early 2019 succeeded in attracting more than 7000 students throughout Sharjah. The initiative is the first of its kind in the region and the Middle East. It is a bus with a capacity of 47 passengers, which has been converted into a mobile museum.

In its first phase, the initiative targeted 4000 students in 14 government schools in the central and eastern regions, including Wadi Al Helu, Al-Fili, Al-Dhaid, Kalba, Khorfakkan and Dibba Al-Hisn, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Sharjah Education Council and with the support of the Sharjah Environment Company (Environment).

Through this initiative, which is supported by Bee'ah, the Sharjah Museums Authority seeks to enhance the ability of school students, especially remote areas, to communicate the contents of Sharjah museums and the unique experiences they provide in a fun way that mixes learning and entertainment.

Through its initiative, the authority aims to provide a unique educational experience that helps in developing the creative expressive aspect, in addition to the contribution of collections and workshops, in achieving part of its goals towards enhancing the educational and creative skills of students in a way that motivates them to think in innovative ways.

Manal Ataya, Director General of the Sharjah Museums Authority, explained that the first stage of the "Museums on the Road" initiative will be for government schools, to be circulated to private and foreign schools in the second stage.

She continued: “The idea of ​​the initiative emanated from the belief of the Sharjah Museums Authority in the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, towards the educational and educational role of museums, stressing at the same time that museums are continuing to target all segments of society and enhance their ability to reach To how much knowledge holds its holdings, which fits different aspirations in innovative ways ».

Attaya added that “the initiative is to design miniature sculptures similar to a select group of Sharjah museums collections, displayed on a bus that resembles an interactive museum on wheels that roams the various regions of the country, and develops students’ creative thinking skills, through selected models of museum collections, which symbolize To some aspects of innovation and creativity in human life through different eras, including inventions, artwork, transportation, jewelry and components of folk medicine ».

Mainstreaming the initiative

"The initiative has succeeded in reaching more than 7,000 students throughout Sharjah, to make the Mobile Museum project, which is the first of its kind in the Middle East, a great success during its first year," said Nasser Al Darmaki, Director of Museum Development. The initiative and its transfer to the rest of the emirates of the country, after it travels in remote areas in the Emirate of Sharjah ».

Al Darmaki stated that "a business plan has been developed that extends for the next three years, according to which the mobile bus activity will be expanded, in the framework of promoting innovation and creativity, which is in line with the local and national vision in the field of education."
