The Tokyo High Court decided to allow bail for Hideaki Kumazawa (76), the former secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, who was sentenced to six years in prison for murdering his eldest son. The defendant will pay 5 million yen on bail and is expected to be released on bail soon.

Former Secretary of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Hideaki Kumazawa, Defendant (76), was accused of murdering the 44-year-old eldest son with a knife at his home in Nerima-ku, Tokyo. The defendant acknowledged the charges and was sentenced to six years in jail on the Tokyo District Court this month.

After the verdict, the defendant's lawyer demanded bail, but the Tokyo District Court dismissed, and the lawyer appealed to the Tokyo High Court. On this day, Tokyo High Court Chief Justice Aoyagi decided to cancel the Tokyo District Court decision and allow bail.

According to the court, the defendant is expected to be released on bail shortly after paying 5 million yen on bail. It is unusual for a bail to be accused of murder.

The court seems to have made a judgment considering the health condition because the judgment of the first trial was handed down and the risk of disappearance of evidence decreased, and the defendant was elderly.

According to the court, the deadline for appealing is the 6th of next month, so far, neither the defense nor the prosecution has appealed.
