Culture and cultural policy have become an "ideological battlefield", the authors believe. They mention the municipality of Sölvesborg, where it was decided not to buy "challenging contemporary art", and the municipality of Täby, where a Swedish democratic politician recently wanted to stop a writer's visit that would deal with LGBTQ issues.

Among those who signed the debate post are Anna Serner, CEO of the Film Institute, Björn Sandmark, CEO of Gothenburg City Theater, and Anders Frennberg, CEO of Cirkus Cirkör.

“The order of priority belongs to a time when the culture was not under systematic attack. The right to culture deserves the same protection value as the right to education and housing, ”writes the 17 representatives of different cultural institutions.
