Weil am Rhein is a total unknown. But there is no equal destination for lovers of contemporary architecture. After a fire destroyed their factories in 1981, Vitra, the great furniture manufacturer, decided to start from scratch in this German town next to the border of France and Switzerland. For this he asked for help from Tadao Ando, Frank Gehry, Nicholas Grimshaw, Zaha Hadid, Herzog & de Meuron, SANAA, Álvaro Siza and others. Everyone accepted and this is the result: perhaps the best catalog of modern architecture in the world.
