Over the next two nights, the sky of the Arab region is witnessing a meteor shower of twins, which is considered one of the best meteor showers and takes place every year on December 14.

The director of the International Astronomy Center, a member of the International Meteor Organization, Engineer Mohamed Shawkat Odeh, confirmed that the meteor shower of twins is slow, which makes it appear for a longer period of time, where the speed of meteors of twins reached 35 kilometers per second. The meteor shower of twins was called this name because all its meteors appear to come from an existing fake point In the group of twins, the cause of these meteors is an asteroid called "Faithon", and this asteroid behaves like comets sometimes. Dusted granules escape from it and remain in its orbit. Stupid grained Yeh towards the ground and enter the atmosphere Vtanrq and ionize the atmosphere is composed of meteors that we see.

He pointed out that meteors of twins appear every year between 4 and 17 December and reach a peak on December 14 and in this year the peak will occur on Saturday 14 December between 02 to 23 GMT, and this makes both nights Friday night on Saturday in addition to Saturday night on Sunday Two occasions to witness the peak of this meteor shower. The number of twin meteors at peak time is about 120 meteors per hour, but this number can only be seen from a completely dark place far from city lighting, for a short period near the peak time and from areas where the twin group is high on the horizon. As for monitoring from inside the city, it is not expected t Yeh more than ten meteors per hour at best but because of the presence of the moon this year, beside the point of radiation is projected that the expected number of meteors visible from a dark and a suitable place close to twenty flare at peak time only time.

He explained that those who are interested in seeing these meteors should monitor from a dark place and look at the sky starting at about ten o'clock in the evening and the meteors increase with time, but it increases significantly after midnight and approaching the dawn date and also the number of meteors is greater whenever the observer is closer to the peak time.

He pointed out that, unlike most other meteors showers, the activity of twin meteors is not the same before and after the peak. The meteor activity increases slowly before the peak, but decreases rapidly after it. Therefore, nights before the peak witness a distinct activity from meteors as well. The number of meteors per hour on peak day, and before the peak day, the number of meteors per hour is half of the number of meteors per hour on peak day .. As for the first day after the peak, the number of meteors per hour is a quarter of the number of meteors per hour on peak day. Low as most meteors either Shiny or dimmed.
