Rumors about Disney's plans to restart the Christmas movie "Home Alone" appeared in the media at the end of 2018. In August 2019, the studio officially confirmed its intention to develop a remake of this comedy, and with it several more paintings - “Wholesale is cheaper”, “Night at the Museum” and “Diary of a wimp”.

Previously, the rights to these tapes belonged to the company 20th Century Fox, which in March 2019 officially became part of Disney. Restarted film projects will be broadcast on the streaming service Disney +, which earned in November this year.

According to Bob Iger, the company’s CEO, the aforementioned films are “rethought” for new generation viewers. At the same time, Iger did not specify when exactly it was planned to begin work on the restart.

On December 10, foreign media unveiled details of the upcoming remake of the 1990 comedy Home Alone. According to Variety, the main role in the reboot will be played by the young actor Archie Yates (Jojo's Rabbit). It is also known that this time the main character is not Kevin McCallister, who was loved by the audience, but a completely different character.

Actors Ellie Kemper (“Office”) and Rob Delaney (“Deadpool 2”) will join the work on the picture. According to The Hollywood Reporter, citing sources, Quimper and Delaney will play spouses who, in order to save the house from financial collapse, go to war on a boy who stole a priceless heirloom.

The project is directed by Dan Mather ("Grandfather of easy virtue"), the script for the film will be written by Saturday Night Live authors Mikey Day and Streeter Sidell. Filming plans to begin in 2020 in Canada.

"Have you run out of ideas in Hollywood?"

Fans of films that have received cult status often react negatively to attempts by filmmakers to re-shoot their favorite paintings. Often, moviegoers explain plans to restart with the desire of studios to enrich themselves or the absence of fundamentally new concepts in the portfolios of Hollywood screenwriters.

“Enough, enough, stop doing restarts of classic pieces. God, in Hollywood, did ideas end? ”, One of Twitter users laments.

Some people note that the restart of a number of well-known films by Disney became possible due to the absorption of the 20th Century Fox film studio conglomerate.

“Anyone who has supported the merger of Disney and 21st Century Fox is entirely your fault. # Bad Ideas, ”said another user.

Many fans of the Christmas comedy are still hard to believe that their favorite film will be restarted with a different cast.

“Does Disney really dare to restart the“ One Home ”and“ Nights at the Museum? ”, Twitter resents.

“What we never asked for and what we definitely don’t need: this restart,” another fan of the film signed the news about the caste remake.

At the same time, some fans joke that they would rather see a sequel with an alternative ending.

“I do not want to restart“ One Home ”. I want a sequel in which Catherine O'Hara (the actress who played Kevin McCallister’s mother Kate. - RT ) and Macaulay Culkin would go on a cool vacation, leaving the rest of the family, ”said one of the fans of the film.

The news about the restart in August was commented by the performer of the role of Kevin McCallister Macaulay Culkin. The actor imagined what the film would have looked like if he had been invited back to the lead role.

“This is how an updated version of“ One Home ”would actually look like,” the actor wrote.

How Disney "ate" 21st Century Fox

Over the past 13 years, the conglomerate The Walt Disney Company has bought out companies such as Pixar, Lucasfilm and Marvel Comics.

In 2017, it became known that the empire of Rupert Murdoch is preparing to sell part of Disney's assets. The merger negotiations took more than one year, and in March 2019, 20th Century Fox officially passed to the competitor.

As a result of the transaction, Disney received the rights to film franchises and series Fox. The company owned films about the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Deadpool and Alien, as well as the series The Simpsons, Futurama, The X-Files, American Horror Story and Family Guy. In addition, under the wing of Disney was the James Cameron saga "Avatar", the films "Planet of the Apes", "Predator" and the animated franchise "Ice Age".

The Murdoch family has retained control of the Fox News channel and the Fox Sports Media Group network of sports channels.
