The music streaming platform has made its grand assessment of the decade. In France, more than ever, trends are emerging with undisputed domination of urban music artists.

Spotify released a few days ago its various rankings of the decade. While in the world, Drake, Ed Sheeran and Post Malone occupy the first three places of the most streamed artists on the platform, the trend is a little different in France, with nine French-speaking artists in the top ten places. In Media Culture on Europe 1, Antoine Monin, Music Director at Spotify France, commented on these figures.

Among the ten singles most listened to in France on Spotify, between 2010 and 2019, Ed Sheeran occupies the first place with his hit Shape of you . Just behind, we find PNL with Au DD . A performance all the more remarkable that the single was only released eight months ago. "Every year, the total tapping is greater than the previous year, so inevitably, titles released more recently have a greater number of plays," says Antoine Monin.

"Urban music in France irrigates a little all genres"

But the real record to draw from these figures of the decade is on the side of popular genres. Indeed, in the ten singles most listened to in France on Spotify in the decade 2010, nine are urban music titles and eight are French-speaking. "Urban music in France irrigates a little bit of all genres", simply analyzes Antoine Monin. A trend that is also found on the side of the most listened to artists. On Spotify in France, of the ten most streamed artists of the decade, nine are French-speaking, but the ten are ... rappers (Drake is the only non-French speaker).
