Netflix already a big winner of the Golden Globes nominations. The video platform may face growing competition, it is the winner of the ceremony held early Monday, December 9, in Los Angeles. The streaming giant totals 18 selections in total, against only 8 for Sony, second in the standings.

The film "Marriage Story" came top in the nominations with selections in six categories in total. Signed Noah Baumbach, this American drama follows the tumultuous divorce between an actress - played by Scarlett Johansson - and her husband director - played by Adam Driver. Both are nominated respectively in the category best actress and best actor.

In the category of Best Dramatic Film, "Marriage Story" will be grappling with heavyweight opponents like "The Two Popes", "Joker" and especially "The Irishman", the latest film on the Italian-American mafia by director Martin Scorsese ... also produced by Netflix, which collects five nominations.

Four nominations for Todd Phillips' Joker

If Martin Scorsese was selected, along with Al Pacino and Joe Pesci who will compete for the best supporting role, the main actor of the three-and-a-half-hour film, Robert De Niro, leaves empty-handed.

Netflix remains in command with "The Two Popes", an imaginary encounter between Benedict XVI, played by Anthony Hopkins and his successor François (Jonathan Pryce), who each win a nomination, bringing to four the total selections for this film directed by the Brazilian Fernando Meirelles.

On the side of the competitors, figure with four nominations the very noticed "Joker". Directed by Todd Phillips and played by Joaquin Phoenix, both could be singled out this year.

Other (serious) candidate in the running: the last Quentin Tarantino, "Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood", which also gets five nominations, including in the category of the best comedy. There will be "Rocketman", biopic dedicated to singer Elton John, "Jojo Rabbit", still with Scarlett Johansson, and "Dolemite Is My Name", which marks the return of Eddy Murphy - also in the running for the title of best actor - and that is still produced by Netflix.

"The transition to maturity of streaming services"

"I'm not surprised by this domination, I'm surprised how massive it is," Lorenzo Soria, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, told AFP. were asked to vote for these appointments. "The announcements this morning are a bit of a transition to the maturity of streaming services," he added.

The Golden Globes are among the most coveted awards in American cinema and are a major indicator of films and actors with a good chance of winning the famous golden statuette of the Oscars.

Another proof of its success, Netflix also dominated the nominations for television, since the Golden Globes also put the spotlight on the small screen. "The Crown", a series about the British royal family in which Olivia Colman plays Queen Elizabeth II, will defend the colors of the platform in four categories.

"Les Miserables" by Ladj Ly in the running for the best foreign film

With "The Morning Show", and the duo of actresses formed by Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, Apple's new streaming service gets three nominations. In total, Netflix snatched 17 nominations for television, compared to 15 to its historical rival HBO.

France will be represented at the Golden Globes by the independant composer Alexandre Desplats, author of the music of the film "The Daughters of Dr. March", the historical drama "Portrait of the girl on fire" by Céline Sciamma, and especially by "Les Les Miserables "by Ladj Ly, Jury Prize at the last Cannes Film Festival and selected in the Best Foreign Film category at the Golden Globes.

But "Les Miserables" will find on their way a formidable competitor, "Parasite" of the Korean Bong Joon-ho, who won him the Palme d'Or.
