Zozibini Tunzi has won the Miss Universe election. The 26-year-old South African referred to second and third place in the final in the American city of Atlanta, Miss Puerto-Rico and Miss Mexico, the organization of the election announced on Monday.
Sharon Pieksma participated on behalf of the Netherlands. The 24-year-old born in Rotterdam was eliminated in the first round.
Tunzi is committed to the fight against gender-based violence. Through social media, she is committed to combating gender stereotypes and culturally determined differences between men and women.
The predecessor of Tunzi in 2018 was Catriona Gray from the Philippines. The last Dutch winner of the Miss Universe title is Angela Visser. She won in 1989.
94Presenter Harvey again made the mistake on Miss Universe election
Presenter Harvey goes wrong again
Four years after Steve Harvey announced the wrong Miss election winner, the presenter made another mistake this time. The comedian showed a picture of Miss Philippines to declare her as the best costume winner, but did not realize that Miss Malaysia was actually the winner. "It is not Miss Philippines, but Miss Malaysia," Malaysian winner Shweta Sekhon corrected him.
His joke about Colombian drug cartels - because he mistakenly designated Miss Colombia as the winner in 2015 - was not appreciated by him on social media.
