The report said that ashfalls are expected in the nearest settlements. The Ministry of Emergency Situations recommended not visiting the Avachinsky Sopka volcano over the next month.

According to the agency, the last time the eruption of Avachinsky volcano, located 27 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, occurred in 2001.

Earlier, Klyuchevskoy volcano in Kamchatka threw a column of ash to a height of 6 km.
