Shortly after Tim "Avicii" Bergling took his life, his parents Klas Bergling and Anki Lidén decided to found a foundation to counter mental illness.

In collaboration with the non-profit organization Mind, the goal is that the support function The Suicide Line should be able to stay open 24 hours a day, instead of today's 18 hours a day. The news comes just over a week after the announcement that the national helpline, which offers call support for people in crisis, will be closed down.

Important signal not to "squirt"

Klas Bergling says that it was important for the foundation to sign a longer contract with Mind. After the three-year period, they hope to continue supporting the association.

- It is an important signal to authorities that distribute money, not to splash or make short contributions, because then you can never build anything, says Klas Bergling.

"Never be depressed"

After his son's death, he read about suicide and mental illness and during the interview he brought with him various reports on the subject. He believes the son's death has led more people to dare talk about suicide. Karin Schultz, Secretary General of Mind, agrees.

"Many people called the Suicide Line in connection with his death, we saw a very large increase," she says.

Every year 1,500 people in Sweden commit suicide and the reasons can be many. Klas Bergling, for example, never experienced that Tim Bergling was depressed.

- It's no secret that he had problems with morphine-based pain tablets and he was constantly trying to get out of it. In those situations we made joint efforts with management. But I never felt that he was depressed, says Klas Bergling.
