The actor Manuel Tejada, known for his roles in series such as 'Verano Azul' or 'Cañas y Barro' , has died on Wednesday at age 79 in Benidorm (Alicante) , a city in which he was based for several years, according to informed Efe family sources.

Tejada was born in Puente de Génave (Jaén) , began his career in the theater in 1960 and remained on the boards until 2010.

In the cinema he began with a small role in 1962 in the film 'Song of youth' starring Rocío Durcal , although his face became very popular in the seventies and first half of the eighties when he turned away from the big screen and since then he only returned rarely until the last film in 2010, in 'Sad Ballad of Trumpet' by Alex de la Iglesia .

On television he was also well known as part of the Spanish Television actor's squad with numerous characters such as 'Estudio 1' , playing the role of Tono in the hit series 'Cañas y mud' , adaptation of Vicente Blasco Ibáñez's novel, role for which he received the TP of Gold in 1978, and for being the father of the famous Tito and Bea in the series 'Summer Blue' .

In addition to the Golden TP, Tejada received the Telemadrid theater award in 2007 for his portrayal of Henry II of England in 'The Winter Lion' and a year later he won the Mayte Theater Award for the same role.
