In "Music!" on Europe 1, the artist talks about the success of his first feature film, co-directed with Mehdi Idir: "Patients". When it was released in theaters, the film garnered 1.3 million admissions in France.

INTERVIEW

Slameur and recognized artist, Grand Corps Malade had chosen to try the realization in 2016 with the film Patients , co-directed with Mehdi Idir. A bet that was not obvious, as underlined by the artist at the microphone of Europe 1 in Musique! , with Émilie Mazoyer. However, not only did the singer's first feature film run in theaters, but he was also nominated four times at the César 2018.

"It was not won"

"We did not imagine such success for Patients , and the appointments to César even less," says Grand Corps Malade at the microphone of Europe 1. Initially, it had to convince producers. A task not necessarily easy. "It was a low-budget film, without known actors, in the world of disability, it was not won", summarizes the author of Midi 20 . But it is precisely because the author wanted a different and original tone, that according to him, Patients liked. "Beyond the very heavy context, it is a film that was very funny and very dynamic," he says.

"I do not know if I know the cinema world better than before"

An essay in the seventh art followed by a transformation, with a second film, School Life (2018). Grand Corps Malade takes stock of this cinematic experience. "I do not know if I know the cinema world better than before, but on the other hand, we were very well received by a lot of movie people, by big actors and directors", underlines the artist. "There are lots of great people in the cinema," he says, "it's not just a world of sharks where we hope the other will fall."
