Bernard Pivot announced to leave the Académie Goncourt on December 3rd. RFI / Yvan Amar

Bernard Pivot leaves the Academy Goncourt, the announcement was made this Tuesday on social networks. At 84 years old, the former journalist chaired this institution for 5 years.

It is with an emotional smile that Bernard Pivot poses. On a photo published Tuesday afternoon on Twitter, he appears around other members of the Academy Goncourt.

Bernard Pivot will leave the Academy on December 31st. No other reason to leave, except to " find a full use of his time " announces the Academy. He will remain a member of honor.

Former animator of the literary program "Apostrophes", Bernard Pivot entered the Académie Goncourt in 2004. He became president ten years later.

He wants more transparency in the jury. Under the Pivot era, forbidden to be sworn and work at the same time for a publishing house. His presidency is of prime importance to young writers. Like Leila Silmani, and her novel "Sweet Song" in 2016.

Accustomed to Twitter, he comments on the news. A big fan of football, his last tweet concerns the Golden Ball received by Lionel Messi. The footballer is compared to a "nice coffee boy, with a clerk silhouette".

If he turns the page of Goncourt, Bernard Pivot will continue to scroll on the screens.

It is both admirable and disconcerting to note that the best football player in the world, of all time, Lionel Messi, six Ballons d'Or, is a little guy with a nice coffee boy's head and a silhouette of 'clerk.
