The Stasi museum in Berlin, which tells the story of the political police of the former Democratic Republic of Germany (GDR), was assaulted this Sunday morning, authorities announced, a few days after the spectacular theft in a Dresden museum .

The malefactors entered through a museum window and "broke several showcases and stole medals and jewelry," police said in a statement. They escaped with the loot without anyone noticing them until it was discovered on Sunday.

It is not known exactly at what time the robbery happened, but an employee discovered broken windows in the showroom on Sunday morning.

The theft came days after another occurred in the Green Dome Museum ("Grünes Gewölbe"), in Dresden (east), where thieves took dressings of jewelry from the 18th century last Monday at dawn, of incalculable value .

The authorities offered a reward of 500,000 euros for any information that helps to find the thieves of the Dresden museum.

This theft in the museum and documentation center of the Stasi occurred precisely in the weeks after the celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall that separated the city into two parts. In the eastern zone, precisely, the Stasi played a fundamental repressive role in retaining citizens who wanted to flee to the West. The museum and its archives were opened to the public shortly after the fall of the Wall, which marked the beginning of the end of the Cold War.
