BEIRUT (Reuters) - Fuel stations in Beirut were shut down on Wednesday after announcing the start of an open-ended strike that begins on Thursday, Al Arabiya television reported.

From the moment the union of fuel stations owners in Lebanon announced the open strike, starting on Thursday, the stations witnessed a huge congestion.

The Syndicate of owners of fuel stations in Lebanon announced that it will carry out the open strike, starting on Thursday morning, on the entire Lebanese territory.

The board of directors of the Association of Banks decided not to strike and regarded Thursday as a normal working day.

In turn, the Lebanese economic authorities suspended the general strike planned over the weekend until further notice.

The private sector in Lebanon also announced the suspension of its call for a general strike today, tomorrow and the day after.
