The UAE has a golden opportunity to become a major center in the Middle East to develop Arabic content on the Internet and invest in the field of artificial intelligence in translation, according to specialists in translation and literature, noting that the next 20 years will witness a significant increase in the use of artificial intelligence However, this does not pose a threat to translators working in this field.

Participants at the Abu Dhabi International Translation Conference, which was organized over two days at the Cultural Complex in the UAE capital under the title «Word to the World», and concluded yesterday, to develop ways to teach the Arabic language in universities and academic institutions, to keep pace with the developments of the times, and to attract new Arabic dictionaries, after the recent years witnessed a significant weakness and decline in the issuance of these dictionaries.

Proposals

During a session entitled “Challenges and Ways of Developing Translation in Arabic”, moderated by Dr. Sultan Faisal Al-Rumaithi, Professor of Art History at the University of Granada, Dr. José Miguel Puerta Flechez, called for the establishment of a unified and effective academic institution to oversee the publication of Arabic-language dictionaries and publications. Developing them as a common factor that brings together the peoples of the region, calling on governments, universities and competent institutions in the Arab world to exert more effort to preserve and develop the Arabic language.

Regarding the future of Arabic in the age of digitization, Fletches pointed out that the Arabic content on the Internet is very weak compared to Spanish, which managed to become the second language on the Web, pointing out that Spanish universities have been very popular since the 1980s to study the language Arabic, stressing the need to provide curricula to teach Arabic in schools as an optional second language.

While the Polish writer Stanislav Strasbourger, the difficulty of mastering the classical Arabic and used to communicate with the Arabs, despite studying because of the different dialects from one country to another, and different from standard Arabic, which was discovered when visiting Tunisia after two years of studying Arabic in his country, This made him change his approach to language teaching and relying on direct communication with people.

Future investment

For his part, the translator and researcher, Yves Champillion, that there is a golden opportunity for the UAE to become a center for investment in artificial intelligence and development of translation and Arabic language, in light of the state-owned projects in this field, in addition to its technical development and wide interest He pointed out that the next 20 years will witness a major development in the use of these technologies in translation, to provide a lot of sophisticated translations compared to the current user, such as Google.

He pointed out that this development will be a means for the development of Arabic language and Arabic content on the Internet, to catch up and occupy the status it deserves. He also reduced the threat of modern technologies to translators to lose their jobs, saying that its role will be focused in liberating the translator work from repetitive work, and address errors to better provide text, and reduce the cost of translation, «but the human language remains unknown which the machine can not reach, because language is Feelings, the machine does not have these feelings ».
