An exhibition that gathers precious clay figurines from around the country, including clay figures with a heart-shaped face, is held in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture.

At the exhibition held at the Prefectural Museum of History in Takasaki City, you can see about 270 items such as the Jomon period figurines excavated throughout the country.

Among them, the face of the clay figurine excavated in Higashi Agatsuma-cho, Gunma Prefecture in 1965 is heart-shaped and is designated as an important cultural property of the country.

The clay figurines excavated in Matsusaka City, Mie Prefecture and Higashi-Omi City, Shiga Prefecture are all the oldest clay figurines in Japan in the early Jomon period and are rarely displayed side by side.

In addition, a flat clay figure like a board excavated at the Sannai-Maruyama site in Aomori City, and a national treasure called “Masked Earth Figurine” found at the site in Hadano City, Nagano Prefecture are also displayed, giving you a unique expression and shape. You can enjoy it.

Noriko Ishida, director of the Gunma Prefectural Museum of History, said, “There are so many clay figurines that appear in textbooks, so I think you can enjoy them.”

The exhibition is open until 1 December.
