JAKARTA - The Indonesian city of Bandung plans to give schoolchildren small chicks to raise in order to keep them busy using their smartphones, reports said Friday.
The mayor of "Bandung", capital of West Java province, launched a "chicks campaign" on Thursday and distributed 2,000 chicks to a number of primary school students and high school students, according to the newspaper "Kompas" daily.


The chicks were placed in small cages that read, "Take care of you."


According to the newspaper, the mayor said that "the campaign of chicks aims not only to divert the attention of pupils from electronic devices, but also to feed young birds and love and take responsibility."
"The pupils will be fed the chicks before going to school, and upon their return. They will learn the system."


A survey conducted by the company "ESET" cybersecurity, that the citizen in Indonesia spend an average of three hours a day in the use of mobile phone.
According to the report, about 10 percent of respondents spend about 10 hours a day browsing the Internet.
