The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare will start accepting claims on the 22nd and establish a telephone consultation desk in response to the establishment of a law that the government pays compensation to the family of former patients with leprosy.

This law stipulates that the state should pay compensation for not only ex-patients but also families suffering discrimination due to the country's false isolation policy over leprosy.

In the preface, the law was passed on the 15th of this month, in order to clarify the responsibilities of the state, such as “The Diet and the Government are deeply apologized”.

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare will start accepting claims for compensation from the 22nd and will also establish a telephone consultation service.
