The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has condemned the kidnapping of Iranian-backed Houthi militia, Rabigh-3, which was attacked by armed robbery, south of the Red Sea during a Qatar-owned offshore drilling rig.

The UAE condemns these irresponsible acts, which pose a real threat to freedom of international navigation and trade, and set a dangerous precedent for the security of the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the southern Red Sea, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The statement stressed the need to maintain the security and safety of the crew members of the multinational locomotive as stipulated in international law, and called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to release them as soon as possible.
