Smoke has become a health problem and several musicians working in the orchestra diet have developed asthma, three of which have been classified as occupational injury. In total, 21 musicians have received certificates from doctors that they should not be exposed to smoke from the opera's smoke machine.
Instead, temporary workers have been hired, which has cost the opera almost SEK 700,000. The stage smoke contains glycol and it can cause health problems in the form of cough and dry throat, writes the Norwegian newspaper Klassekampen.
