Frans Verstappen, the grandfather of racing driver Max Verstappen, died in a hospice on Monday due to the effects of cancer. Harold Housmans, a friend of Verstappen, confirmed this to 1 Limburg.
Frans Verstappen owned an ice cream parlor in the Limburg town of Monfort. In Housmans Hall, a local bar-dancing, he watched the races that his famous grandson rode with fans.
In 2016, Verstappen came in the news because of a rampant argument with his son, Jos Verstappen. There would have been a scuffle. Frans Verstappen reported the incident to the police, but later withdrew it. "It's just a private matter between me and Jos," he said about that.
