A Senegalese man has beaten his pregnant wife to her third month of death for not having dinner, Senegalese police said, confirming information circulated by the media.
Aminata Ka, 22, returned to her home on the outskirts of Dakar on Wednesday night after a series of tired medical examinations.
Neighbors called the police to the scene after they heard the victim's screams, but by the time they arrived, she died.
According to neighbors interviewed by police, Aminata was subjected to violence on a daily basis, and her face was always covered in bruises.
The husband was arrested at his home.
In May 2019, the Ministry of Women's Affairs denounced the "renewed violence against women and girls in Senegal" after the deaths of two girls "killed in terrible circumstances."
Both crimes triggered calls for the reactivation of the death penalty, which was abolished in 2004 after pressure from religious leaders and citizens alike.
