The human toll of Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip continues to increase. At least eight people were killed Wednesday (November 13th) in new attacks, according to the Ministry of Health of the Palestinian territory.

These strikes now bring to 18 the number of Palestinians killed since Tuesday in Israeli operations against Islamic Jihad positions in the Gaza Strip, according to the latest report from the Gazoui Ministry of Health. At least 50 people have been injured since Tuesday, the ministry said.

Israeli warplanes bombed Islamic Jihad positions on Wednesday morning after new rocket fire from the Gaza Strip.

In the Israeli cities of Netivot and Ashkelon, locals woke up to the sound of sirens alerted to warn the local population when firing rockets, according to initial reports of the army.

The army reported effective fire from Gaza and said in the wake that his aircraft had bombed and hit an Islamic Jihad unit that had launched rockets.

At least 220 rockets fired from Gaza to Israel

The Israeli army conducted a targeted operation in Gaza on Tuesday against top Islamic Jihad commander Baha Abu al-Ata and his wife Asma.

Since Tuesday, at least 220 rockets have been fired from Gaza to Israel, without killing, according to the latest assessment of the IDF that said it intercepted 90% of these projectiles.

A 41-year-old father of five, Baha Abu Al-Ata joined the ranks of the Palestinian group in the 1990s and was his commander for northern Gaza.

"He was responsible for several terrorist attacks, rocket attacks on the State of Israel in recent months and intended to perpetrate impending attacks," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.
