The Saudi Human Rights Commission (HRC) has recommended that a law be passed quickly setting the age of marriage at 18 and prohibiting it. This move comes after several years of circulation of this file within the corridors of the Shura Council.

The Commission based its recommendation that under 18 years of age is a childhood phase, as indicated by domestic regulations, the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, the system of protection from abuse, the system of combating crimes of trafficking in persons, as well as the International Convention on the Rights of the Child to which Saudi Arabia is a party.
